Oak Park-Area Gas and Diesel Prices Rise as Chicago Averages Climb

Drivers around Oak Park are facing another increase at the pump. The AAA Illinois fuel-price page listed the July 29 Chicago Metro average at $4.436 per gallon for regular gasoline, up 5.3 cents from the previous day. Diesel reached $5.384 per gallon, an increase of 3.3 cents.

Regular gas continues to move higher

The Chicago Metro regular-gas average was 13.4 cents higher than a week earlier, 24.8 cents above its level a month ago, and 92.2 cents higher than a year earlier.

At the current metro average, the annual increase would add about $13.83 to the cost of filling a 15-gallon tank, before accounting for differences between individual stations. Higher regular-gas prices can affect Oak Park residents through daily commuting, household errands, appointments, summer travel and weekend activities.

Diesel’s annual increase is larger

Diesel rose to $5.384 per gallon in the latest AAA check. The price was 19.5 cents higher than a week earlier, 16.9 cents above the month-ago average, and $1.563 higher than a year ago.

That increase matters beyond diesel-powered personal vehicles. Contractors, landscapers, delivery operators, repair companies, freight carriers, restaurants and other service businesses may feel higher fuel costs through vehicle operations and deliveries. Those added expenses do not automatically translate into a specific price increase for customers, but fuel remains an operating cost businesses will watch.

These are Chicago Metro averages, not Oak Park’s citywide price

AAA reports a Chicago Metro average and does not provide a separate Oak Park metro row. Prices at Oak Park stations can differ based on location, brand, competition, taxes, traffic patterns and when a station updates its signs.

The Way.com Oak Park listing showed station observations dated July 19 ranging from $4.99 to $5.89 for regular gasoline. Those figures are older station-level observations, not current Oak Park averages, and should not be compared with the July 29 AAA metro figure as if they measured the same thing.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s Chicago data provided slower weekly regional context. Its July 27 Chicago all-grades gasoline benchmark was $4.304 per gallon, while the Midwest all-grades benchmark was $3.968. Those figures use a different product measure and reporting schedule, so they do not replace AAA’s current regular-gas and diesel snapshot.

Oak Park drivers shopping for a lower price should compare stations before filling up, especially because traveling only a few blocks can produce a different pump price. Share the highest and lowest prices you are seeing around Oak Park.
