Montgomery gas averages edge higher as diesel reaches $5.14
AAAโs July 29 Montgomery metro check put regular gas at $3.834 and diesel at $5.141, with different trackers showing lower averages based on timing and methodology.
Diesel has moved above $5 a gallon in the latest AAA Montgomery metro price check, while regular gasoline continues to run higher than it did a week, month and year ago.
AAA listed regular gasoline at $3.834 per gallon on July 29, 2026. That was 0.3 cents lower than the prior day, but 3.0 cents higher than a week earlier, 29.8 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.027 higher than a year earlier.
Diesel is showing the sharper increase
AAAโs Montgomery metro diesel average was $5.141 per gallon on July 29. Diesel rose 1.9 cents from the prior day, 13.0 cents from the previous week, 77.0 cents from a month earlier and $1.658 from a year earlier.
The separate movements matter for local drivers. Regular gas edged down in the daily comparison, while diesel continued to rise. That distinction is especially important for trucking, delivery operators, contractors, service companies and other businesses that rely on diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.
Why local price trackers may differ
Montgomery-area fuel averages can vary depending on which stations are included and when the data is updated. CostcoGasPrices.comโs July 30 Montgomery snapshot listed regular gas at $3.640 and diesel at $4.644, both below AAAโs July 29 figures.
The difference does not necessarily mean one source is correcting the other. The trackers may use different station samples, update schedules or calculation methods. AAAโs figures are a metro benchmark, not a guarantee of what every driver will see at a particular pump.
Station listings for Montgomery also show variation among locations. For example, Way.com listings displayed regular-gas prices ranging from $3.60 to $3.90 at several Montgomery stations when checked. Those listings are local examples rather than a comprehensive survey, and pump prices can change.
What higher fuel costs could mean locally
Sustained increases can add pressure to household transportation budgets and business costs. Contractors may face higher operating expenses, while delivery companies, restaurants, home-service businesses and weekend travelers may have less room in their budgets when diesel and gasoline remain elevated.
Those effects are practical implications, not evidence that every local business or household has already changed its behavior. The clearest current signal is the price gap between fuels: AAAโs diesel average is above $5, and dieselโs monthly and yearly increases are larger than regular gasolineโs.
AAAโs latest figures should be used as a benchmark. Actual pump prices may be higher or lower depending on the station and timing. What are the highest and lowest prices you are seeing around Montgomery?
