Indian Trail Road Phase 1 Moves Into NCDOT Review, Not Construction
Indian Trail has submitted 100% plans for Phase 1 of its Indian Trail Road project to NCDOT, but construction and completion dates remain undetermined.
Indian Trail’s Indian Trail Road Complete Street project has reached a new design milestone, but it has not reached the construction stage. The town’s July 24, 2026, manager’s report says staff submitted the 100% contract and plans package for Phase 1 to the North Carolina Department of Transportation for review.
That submission means the project is further along in design and preparation. It does not mean construction has started, that NCDOT has issued final construction approval, or that residents have a confirmed start date.
What Phase 1 covers
Phase 1 is planned for Indian Trail Road between Gribble Road and Liberty Lane. The town’s project description identifies a broad package of roadway, drainage, utility, pedestrian and intersection improvements for that corridor.
Planned work includes storm drainage infrastructure, curb and gutter, water and sewer improvements, an underground duct bank, 10-foot-wide concrete paths, traffic-signal improvements and a roundabout. The combination of improvements means the project is intended to address roadway function, drainage, utilities, pedestrian access and intersection operations in the same Phase 1 corridor.
The town also reports that the project’s environmental documents have been approved. Town materials describe right-of-way work as complete, but that milestone is separate from final plan review and authorization to begin construction.
What remains before construction
The immediate next step is NCDOT’s review of the submitted contract and plans package. Additional pre-construction steps may still be required before active construction begins, and plan submission should not be read as a final authorization or funding release.
Right-of-way completion is an important preparation milestone because it addresses the property interests needed for the project. It is separate from final plan review, contractor selection or authorization to begin construction. Those distinctions matter for residents and businesses planning around future access, traffic changes or construction impacts.
No firm completion date is available
The town’s public project information lists the expected completion date as “TBD.” The latest manager’s report also does not provide a construction start date or a revised completion schedule.
For now, the clearest takeaway is that the Indian Trail Road Complete Street project has advanced to a formal review stage while remaining in pre-construction. Residents should watch for a later town or NCDOT update before planning around a specific construction schedule, detour or completion deadline.
