Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Fuel Prices Ease Slightly, Stay High

Drivers in the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton metro saw only slight relief in the latest AAA price check. Regular gasoline averaged $4.206 per gallon on July 28, 2026, down 1.6 cents from the previous day. Diesel averaged $5.556 per gallon, down 0.2 cents.

The small day-over-day declines did not change the broader direction. Both fuels were more expensive than they were one week, one month and one year earlier, keeping fuel costs elevated for commuters, households and businesses that depend on regular driving or diesel-powered equipment.

Regular gasoline is higher across every comparison

AAA listed regular gasoline 6.6 cents higher than the previous week and 49.3 cents higher than the previous month. Compared with a year earlier, the metro average was up $1.197 per gallon.

That increase can add to transportation costs for commuters and households with multiple vehicles. It also gives drivers a reason to compare nearby stations before filling up, since individual pump prices may differ from the metro average.

Diesel remains more expensive than regular gas

Diesel followed a similar pattern, although its year-over-year increase was larger. AAA reported diesel down 0.2 cents from the previous day but up 11.1 cents from the previous week and 36.6 cents from the previous month.

Diesel was $1.618 per gallon higher than a year earlier. That can create added cost pressure for trucking and delivery operators, contractors, landscapers, restaurants that rely on deliveries, service businesses and other companies operating heavy vehicles or equipment. The effect on any individual business will depend on its fuel use, contracts and ability to pass costs through to customers.

Metro averages are not station prices

The AAA figures cover the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton metro, not every station in the City of Allentown. Individual pump prices can vary by location, brand, competition, payment method and timing, so drivers may find prices above or below the reported metro averages.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration provides broader Central Atlantic, regional and national gasoline and diesel data that can help frame market conditions, but those figures are not substitutes for the Allentown-area numbers. The clearest takeaway from the July 28 check is that regular gasoline and diesel both eased slightly from the prior day while remaining higher over the week, month and year comparison periods.
