Eagle Rock High School Gets $4.56M Relocatable-Building Plan

Los Angeles Unified School District has approved a $4,556,538 facilities project at Eagle Rock High School in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. The work would replace aging bungalow buildings while upgrading campus safety, accessibility and infrastructure.

The project would demolish eight existing bungalow buildings containing 16 classrooms, along with associated stairs, ramps, sitework and utilities. LAUSD plans to install six new relocatable classroom buildings containing 12 classrooms on permanent foundations at the campus.

The replacement plan has four fewer classrooms

The project is not an expansion of Eagle Rock High School. The classroom count in the bungalow buildings would decline from 16 to 12, a reduction of four classrooms.

The California CEQA record says the project will not increase or alter the campus’s current use, function or capacity. In practical terms, the approved work is intended to replace and modernize facilities without increasing the school’s existing capacity.

Safety and accessibility work is included

In addition to the classroom buildings, the project includes related utility work, site and landscaping improvements, and upgrades intended to meet local, state and federal requirements, including Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

LAUSD also plans to upgrade the fire-alarm system throughout the campus and add two new fire hydrants. The project record identifies those improvements as part of the same facilities work.

Approval does not establish a construction date

California’s CEQAnet record shows that the project’s Notice of Exemption was received and posted June 1, 2026. On June 12, LAUSD announced that its Board of Education had approved a package of 37 school-facility projects totaling nearly $525 million across the district. The Eagle Rock project is identified in the CEQA record as an LAUSD project with an approved budget of $4,556,538.

The available documents establish the project’s scope and budget, but they do not establish when demolition or construction will begin, when the replacement buildings will open, or how students and staff would be accommodated during the work.

For Eagle Rock families and nearby residents, the plan points to newer relocatable classroom facilities and improvements to fire protection, utilities and accessibility. The key tradeoff is that the replacement buildings would contain 12 classrooms instead of the 16 classrooms in the eight older bungalow buildings.
