Denton Fuel Check: Regular Gas $3.50, Diesel $4.78

Regular gasoline rose to $3.50 per gallon and diesel climbed to $4.78 at a Denton Sam’s Club fuel center in the latest price check.

The listing for the fuel center at 2850 W. University Drive was updated about 13 minutes before the August 1 check. Compared with the previous same-site check on July 31, regular gas increased 44 cents from $3.06, while diesel increased 77 cents from $4.01.

Diesel posted the larger increase

Diesel’s 77-cent increase was larger in dollar terms than regular gasoline’s 44-cent rise. That can create added pressure for contractors, delivery operators, service businesses and other commercial fleets that rely on diesel-powered vehicles.

For a 15-gallon gasoline fill-up, a 44-cent increase would add about $6.60 compared with the previous price at this same station, before any membership or payment-related considerations.

Denton listing remains below Texas averages

AAA reported an August 1 Texas average of $3.612 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.038 for diesel. The Denton Sam’s Club listing was 11.2 cents below the statewide regular-gas average and 25.8 cents below the statewide diesel average.

These are not citywide Denton averages. The local figures reflect one station at one point in time, while AAA’s figures are statewide averages. Prices at other Denton stations may be higher or lower, and pump prices can change during the day.

Sam’s Club pricing may be tied to membership and station policies, so drivers should check the terms of their purchase and compare nearby stations before filling up.

What the change could mean locally

For commuters and households, the higher regular-gas price could raise the cost of repeated daily trips, school transportation and weekend travel. The larger diesel increase is a figure to watch for contractors, delivery businesses and service companies that factor fuel into routes, delivery charges or job estimates.

Restaurants and other businesses that depend on deliveries could also face higher transportation costs if similar increases appear at other stations. The August 1 figures do not show that every Denton station moved by the same amount.
