Nashville Gas Prices Ease From Yesterday While Diesel Moves Higher

Regular gasoline prices eased in the Nashville metro area on Saturday, Aug. 1, while diesel moved higher. AAA’s latest Nashville price check lists regular gas at $3.694 per gallon and diesel at $5.052.

The split matters for local drivers and businesses: gasoline is slightly cheaper than it was during the previous daily check, but diesel costs are moving in the opposite direction and remain substantially higher than they were a year ago.

Gasoline is lower than yesterday and last week

AAA lists Nashville regular gasoline at 2.9 cents below Friday’s average of $3.723 per gallon. The current average is also 3.4 cents below the week-ago figure of $3.728.

That short-term easing has not erased the larger increase. Regular gas is 21.5 cents higher than the month-ago average of $3.479 and 90.3 cents higher than the year-ago average of $2.791.

For commuters, parents, weekend travelers and households with multiple vehicles, the daily decline offers only limited relief if prices remain near current levels. A driver filling a 15-gallon tank would pay about $55.41 at the Nashville metro average, before any station-specific discount or variation.

Diesel is moving higher

Diesel reached $5.052 per gallon in AAA’s Aug. 1 Nashville listing, up 4.4 cents from yesterday’s $5.008 average. It is also 8.4 cents above the week-ago average of $4.968.

The longer-term increases are larger. Nashville diesel is 51.1 cents above its month-ago average of $4.541 and $1.522 above the year-ago average of $3.530.

That creates the clearest immediate pressure for contractors, delivery drivers, landscaping and repair companies, restaurants that rely on regular deliveries, freight operators and other businesses using diesel-powered vehicles or equipment. Higher fuel costs can raise operating expenses, although the available price data does not show whether any particular Nashville business has changed its prices or schedules.

Nashville remains below the latest U.S. averages

The latest weekly U.S. Energy Information Administration update, released July 28 and based on July 27 data, listed regular gasoline at $4.096 per gallon and on-highway diesel at $5.313 nationally. Both U.S. averages rose from the prior week, with gasoline up 9.5 cents and diesel up 17.9 cents.

Nashville’s AAA metro averages are therefore below those national figures, but the local year-over-year increases remain significant. AAA’s metro average covers the market as a whole, not every station, so individual pump prices can vary considerably across Nashville and surrounding communities.

What to watch at the pump

Regular gasoline is showing modest daily and weekly easing, while diesel continues to rise across every comparison window listed by AAA. That divergence is worth watching for commuters and for businesses whose vehicles consume diesel rather than gasoline.
