Holly Springs’ Route 311 bus connection to RTP scheduled to return in August

Holly Springs is scheduled to regain a weekday bus connection to Research Triangle Park and the Regional Transit Center when GoTriangle restores Route 311 in August.

The planned service will run hourly from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays between the North Main Athletic Complex park-and-ride in Holly Springs and the Regional Transit Center, or RTC. GoTriangle’s August 2, 2026 service-change notice gives August as the return month but does not identify the exact first day buses will operate, so riders should treat the route as planned service until that date is confirmed.

Where Holly Springs riders will board

The Holly Springs endpoint will be the North Main Athletic Complex park-and-ride at Sportsman Way. The location also will provide a connection to the Holly Springs Hopper microtransit service.

GoTriangle will operate Route 311. The Town of Holly Springs is promoting the local service and Hopper connection but is not the operator of the regional route.

Route will connect Holly Springs with RTP

Route 311 will travel primarily along NC 55 through Apex and West Cary before serving Research Triangle Park and the Regional Transit Center. The published stop list includes locations along Slater Road, Hopson Road, Davis Drive, Kit Creek Road, O’Kelly Chapel Road and NC 55, including stops associated with RTP destinations such as Biogen, Cisco, Parkside and other nearby business areas.

The route is not a direct bus to every RTP employer. Riders will need to choose the listed stop closest to their destination and may need to walk or make another connection.

RTC transfers broaden trip options

At the Regional Transit Center, Route 311 riders can transfer to GoTriangle services serving Chapel Hill, Durham, Morrisville, Raleigh and RDU Airport. The transfer point also connects with other regional transit options, but longer trips may require a transfer rather than a one-seat ride.

GoTriangle’s maps-and-schedules directory lists Route 311 as the Holly Springs–North Main Athletic Complex–RTC route. The agency’s Route 311 page links riders to the route brochure, trip planner and real-time stop information.

Fare is $2.50 for full-fare riders

GoTriangle’s current full fixed-route fare is $2.50. Riders using GoPass can reach a $5 daily cap, $20 weekly cap or $80 monthly cap. GoTriangle says a Umo account is required to access GoPass benefits.

Discounted and fare-free programs are available for qualifying riders, including some youth, seniors, riders with disabilities and transit-assistance participants. Eligibility and enrollment requirements vary by program.

Exact launch date remains unclear

GoTriangle’s August 2 service-change notice says Route 311 will return “in August,” while the published brochure identifies August 2026 service but does not state the first operating date. Before traveling, riders should check GoTriangle’s Route 311 page, maps and schedules, trip planner and real-time stop tools for the confirmed launch date and current departure times.
