Greensboroโs Road to 10,000 initiative reached 5,006 homes completed or under construction, passing the halfway point toward the cityโs goal of supporting 10,000 new housing units by 2030. WXII reported the dashboard total on the morning of Oct. 21, 2026.
Half of the goal is 5,000, so the tally stood six units above that mark, or 50.06% of the target. Subtracting 5,006 from 10,000 leaves 4,994 units to reach the stated goal. These calculations describe progress against the initiativeโs target; they do not mean the remaining units are scheduled for a particular year or date.
What the tally includes
WXII reported that the total included more than 3,000 apartments, more than 1,000 single-family homes, 746 townhomes and 14 duplexes. Because the apartment and single-family figures are reported as โmore thanโ thresholds, they are not exact counts and do not provide a precise breakdown of all 5,006 homes.
The tally combines completed homes with those still under construction. It does not separate the two statuses or report how many homes are occupied, affordable or available to residents. For someone trying to gauge housing available now, the number is therefore a measure of activity toward the cityโs goalโnot a count of homes currently ready to move into.
Recent dashboard comparison
WXII reported a dashboard total of 4,983 homes on Oct. 15, six days before the 5,006 figure. The reported totals differ by 23. That comparison shows a change in the dashboard tally, but does not establish that 23 homes were built during those six days.
The City of Greensboroโs Road to 10,000 initiative targets housing development in Greensboro. Launched in February 2025, the initiative aims to coordinate public and private partners, support housing across price points and types, and improve development processes. The 2030 target is framed as development the initiative supports; the reported count is a progress measure against that goal.
