Route 149 bridge closure in East Haddam is scheduled to end Aug. 17
As of Aug. 2, 2026, the continuous closure of Route 149 at the Dykas Brook bridge in East Haddam is scheduled to end Monday, Aug. 17. Until then, drivers using the Moodus-area connection should follow the posted detour through Johnsonville Road and Leesville Road.
The closure is part of Connecticut Department of Transportation State Project 0040-0148, the replacement of Bridge No. 02698 over Dykas Brook. CTDOT identifies the bridge location as East Haddam, while project drawings identify Route 149 as East Haddam-Moodus Road. That designation explains the road’s relevance to Moodus-area travel without placing the bridge inside a specific Moodus village or census boundary.
Detour remains in effect until the scheduled date
CTDOT announced that the continuous Route 149 closure began Monday, April 20, 2026, and is scheduled to continue through Monday, Aug. 17. Traffic is being detoured through Johnsonville Road and Leesville Road, with signs directing motorists through the work zone.
The Aug. 17 date is a schedule, not a guarantee of a permanent reopening. CTDOT warns that weather delays or other unforeseen conditions could modify or extend the closure. Drivers should continue to follow posted signs and use caution in the work area until the agency confirms any change.
Bridge replacement continues after the closure
The scheduled end of the continuous closure does not mean the entire project is finished. CTDOT says overall completion is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, subject to schedule changes.
The project includes demolition and replacement of Bridge No. 02698, new drainage structures and asphalt pavement. The state awarded the $2,558,885 contract to Dayton Construction. CTDOT says the project is administered through its Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.
For Moodus-area residents, commuters, workers and businesses, the immediate planning point is the scheduled Aug. 17 end of the continuous detour. Road work may still be active afterward as the remaining bridge, drainage and pavement work is completed.
