Three killed, seven injured in shooting at Twin Falls In-N-Out

Three people were killed and seven injured, some critically, in a shooting at the In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls on Saturday, Aug. 1, authorities said. Police found the suspected gunman dead near the restaurant, but officials had not determined whether that person was included in the reported three deaths.

The shooting happened at about 2 p.m. in a busy shopping area where hundreds of people were present. Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said the threat to the community was over after officers found the suspected gunman.

Investigation remains open

Authorities were still working Sunday to identify the suspect, determine a motive, interview witnesses and notify victims’ families. Officials had not released the names, ages or other identifying information for those killed or injured.

The latest casualty count was reported by the Associated Press, citing Twin Falls city spokesman Josh Palmer. Earlier local reporting gave a lower injury figure. The count could change as authorities complete the investigation and victim-notification process.

Police had not said whether the suspected gunman’s death was included in the three-person fatality count. For that reason, the confirmed report remained three people killed and seven injured, not four deaths.

Hospital and road response

Multiple injured people were taken to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center. The hospital confirmed that it treated people involved in the shooting but said it would not provide patient identities or conditions, citing patient privacy and its coordination with law enforcement.

Nearby businesses, including locations near Canyon Park and the Magic Valley Mall, were placed on lockdown, and the mall parking lot was cleared. The Perrine Bridge and other roads in the area were temporarily closed before reopening. Police, firefighters, paramedics and officers from Twin Falls, Buhl, Jerome and Idaho State Police responded.

The restaurant had opened July 24, about one week before the shooting, as part of In-N-Out’s expansion into Idaho.

Crisis counseling available Sunday

Crisis counselors were scheduled to assist people who witnessed or were affected by the shooting from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at Rock Creek Elementary School, 850 Federation Road in Twin Falls. Residents should check for updated information before traveling because the hours and location were announced for Aug. 2 only.

Authorities were expected to provide further information as investigators identify the victims and suspect, clarify the final casualty count and continue examining the motive and circumstances of the shooting.
