Plano residents can weigh in on regional quality-of-life survey through Aug. 31

Plano residents have through Aug. 31, 2026, to participate in a regional quality-of-life survey covering traffic, housing, crime, inflation, homelessness and environmental quality.

The City of Plano says it is participating in the 2026 North Texas Quality of Life Survey, which opened July 20. The city’s notice describes the survey as an opportunity for public input on issues affecting daily life, not as a volunteer assignment or a city vote.

Who can respond

The survey is open to adults age 18 and older who live in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin or Denton counties. Plano residents are eligible because Plano is in Collin County, but participation is not limited to Plano voters, homeowners or people who live within the city limits.

That eligibility rule gives the survey a four-county regional scope. It is intended to collect perspectives from across North Texas rather than produce a standalone Plano satisfaction rating.

What the survey covers

Plano’s notice identifies traffic, housing, crime, inflation, homelessness and environmental quality as subjects covered by the survey.

Those categories connect to practical concerns for residents, workers and families, including commuting conditions, housing costs, safety perceptions, household budgets, homelessness and environmental conditions. The city notice does not describe the survey as a hearing or a vote on any one of those issues.

Why the regional data are being collected

The William C. Short North Texas Quality of Life Initiative says its annual survey is designed to provide information about public-service demand, supply, use and impact, along with quality of life across the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

The initiative is a project of the School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas. Its website says the information is intended to inform researchers, community leaders and policymakers and to support analysis of public-service delivery.

The initiative’s website also describes dashboards, annual reports and other public releases as part of its broader reporting process. Those descriptions provide background on how findings have been shared in the past, but they do not establish when or in what form 2026 results will be released, and they do not provide 2026 Plano-specific findings.

What participation does not do

A response can add a Plano resident’s perspective to regional research, but it does not directly decide a specific Plano project, ordinance, budget item or election result.

Any future city action would still have to move through the applicable public process, such as City Council consideration, an adopted budget, a formal ordinance or another required decision. The survey is a way to contribute information to a regional research effort, not a binding referendum or public hearing.

Deadline for Plano residents

Eligible residents can respond through Aug. 31, 2026, using the official survey route provided by the North Texas Quality of Life Initiative. The requirements are residence in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin or Denton County and an age of 18 or older.
