Fremont BART riders face four more weekend train shutdowns beginning Aug. 15

Fremont-area BART riders should plan for another weekend of rail disruptions beginning Saturday, Aug. 15, as crews continue replacing an interlocking near Fremont Station.

BART’s current published schedule lists four remaining shutdown weekends in 2026. Trains will not operate between Union City and Warm Springs/South Fremont stations during the work periods. Fremont Station will remain open for bus service, but no trains will stop there.

Free buses will replace trains

AC Transit will provide free bus-bridge service between the affected stations. Riders will have direct buses between Union City and Warm Springs/South Fremont, along with hopper buses that also stop at Fremont Station.

BART estimates that trips through the affected area will take about 30 to 40 minutes longer. Riders traveling through Fremont, Union City or Warm Springs/South Fremont should allow for that projected delay and expect to transfer from trains to buses.

Remaining shutdown weekends

BART’s current published schedule lists these remaining construction weekends:

• Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15-16
• Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 29-30
• Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12-13
• Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27

BART says the schedule could be revised. Riders should check BART’s trip-planning tools before traveling.

Green Line canceled; Orange Line adjusted

Green Line service will be canceled during each shutdown weekend.

Orange Line trains will run in loops between Warm Springs/South Fremont and Berryessa/North San Jose. Northbound departure times will be adjusted 10 minutes earlier. The last two evening trips from Berryessa/North San Jose, normally scheduled for 11:38 p.m. and 11:49 p.m., will be canceled; BART advises riders to use the 11:10 p.m. train instead.

Riders coming from the bus bridge and heading toward San Francisco should transfer from an Orange Line train to a Blue Line train toward Daly City at Bay Fair Station. BART says Blue, Red and Yellow line service will operate normally, while Orange Line trains will run every 20 minutes during the work.

Parking remains reduced at Fremont Station

The rail work is also limiting parking capacity at Fremont Station. About 750 of the station’s roughly 1,900 parking spaces are temporarily closed for construction staging. BART expects the restriction to continue through February 2027.

The closure is temporary. The lots next to Mowry Avenue are fenced off for equipment staging, and BART says traffic-control and wayfinding signs will direct vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians during construction.

For the next shutdown weekend, Fremont riders should arrive early, follow signs for the AC Transit bus bridge and allow for BART’s estimated 30-to-40-minute delay. The next published shutdown is Aug. 15-16, followed by three additional weekends through Sept. 27.
