Gainesville after-school program starts Aug. 10, 2026
Gainesville’s 2026-27 after-school program begins Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, the same day Alachua County Public Schools starts classes.
The city’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will serve students in grades 1 through 8 at three Gainesville recreation sites. Registration opened July 15 and remains available while spaces last, so an open registration window does not guarantee placement.
Program sites and hours
The program operates at the Albert “Ray” Massey Recreation Center, Eastside Community Center and Porters Community Center.
On regular school days, care runs from 2 to 6 p.m. On early-release days, the program begins at 1 p.m. and continues until 6 p.m.
The Aug. 10 start date aligns with the first day of classes on the Alachua County Public Schools 2026-27 calendar.
Weekly fees vary by residency
Weekly fees are $22.58 for Gainesville residents and $28.22 for nonresidents.
Reduced-rate assistance is available for qualifying families. Parents should review the city’s current program information when registering.
Transportation depends on the school
Transportation arrangements are not identical for every participating school or recreation site.
The city lists supervised walking service from Littlewood Elementary School to Massey. Staff-driven transportation is available for several schools serving the Eastside site.
Families selecting Porters should pay particular attention to the arrangement for Parker Elementary. The city does not provide standard transportation from Parker to Porters unless a change request is processed.
Before Aug. 10, parents should confirm the child’s assigned site, enrollment availability, pickup procedures and transportation plan. Families should also account for the earlier 1 p.m. program start on early-release days.
