West Long Branch Delays Third-Quarter Tax Bills and Announces Sept. 8 Payment Deadline
West Long Branch property taxpayers have not received their 2026 third-quarter tax bills by the usual July 15 mailing deadline, according to a borough notice posted July 23. The borough says third-quarter tax information is available online and has announced September 8, 2026, as the current no-interest payment deadline.
Payments received after September 8 may be charged interest retroactive to August 1, 2026. The borough notice lists an interest rate of 8% on the first $1,500 of delinquency and 18% on any amount above $1,500.
What taxpayers can do now
Residents do not have to wait for a mailed bill to review their third-quarter tax information. The borough says payment information is available through its online tax-payment system, where accounts can be searched by last name, address, or block and lot.
Online credit- or debit-card payments carry a 2.95% transaction fee. E-check payments carry a $1.95 flat fee, according to the borough’s notice.
Payments may also be placed in the borough drop box next to Town Hall’s front doors when the office is closed. The borough says payments left overnight are posted as of the next business day, including any outstanding interest. Town Hall hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Council action is scheduled for Aug. 5
The Aug. 5 Borough Council agenda includes Resolution R-26-98, titled “Resolution Extending Grace Period for Payment of Third Quarter Property Taxes.” The agenda says the bills could not be mailed before July 15 because of delays beyond the borough’s control.
The proposed resolution cites N.J.S.A. 54:4-66.3(d) and says interest would not accrue if payment is made within 25 days after the tax bills are mailed. It also says interest would be charged back to Aug. 1, 2026, for payments made after that grace period.
As of Aug. 4, the resolution was scheduled for council consideration. The agenda was not, by itself, evidence that the council had adopted the measure before publication.
Confirm the date if needed
The borough’s July 23 notice calls September 8, 2026, a Monday. That date falls on a Tuesday. The notice nevertheless identifies September 8 as the current extended no-interest deadline, so taxpayers who are uncertain about the weekday or operative deadline should confirm it with the borough before relying on a different date.
The September 8 deadline is an extended grace-period deadline, not the ordinary August 1 quarterly due date. Residents should retain online payment confirmations or other proof of payment.
