TriMet’s Aug. 23 changes will disrupt several Tigard-area bus connections
TriMet’s adopted FY2027 service plan will change several bus connections used by Tigard riders and nearby commuters beginning Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026.
The most direct Tigard-area impact is the loss of Line 45 service between Washington Square Transit Center and Tigard Transit Center. Line 45 will not disappear entirely, but it will operate on a revised route only during high-school commute hours and will have no weekend service.
Line 45 will no longer connect Washington Square and Tigard Transit Center
TriMet’s final plan discontinues Line 45 service southwest of Washington Square Transit Center along SW Scholls Ferry Road, through the Highway 99W corridor and into Tigard Transit Center.
The adopted plan identifies Line 62 as replacement service along Scholls Ferry Road and Line 94 as replacement service along Highway 99W. Riders making the full Washington Square-to-Tigard trip should check the new schedule and determine whether another line or a transfer is needed for their specific stop and travel time.
Line 45 will instead follow a revised route toward Barbur Transit Center. It will operate only during high-school commute hours, with weekend service discontinued.
Lines 37 and 38 will be discontinued near Boones Ferry Road
Line 37, serving the Lake Grove area, will be discontinued. The plan says the SW Boones Ferry Road segment will be served by Line 96, while Country Club Road service will be available with Line 78.
Line 38 will also be discontinued. Its service will be taken over by Lines 45 and 97.
For riders using the Boones Ferry Road corridor, the replacement depends on the destination and time of day. Line 96 will connect Tualatin with Lake Grove, Mountain Park, PCC Sylvania, Barbur Transit Center and downtown Portland, but the adopted plan limits it to work-commute hours.
Line 97 will operate on a revised route from downtown Tualatin through SW Boones Ferry Road, Lower Boones Ferry Road, Highway 217, Kruse Way and Barbur Transit Center.
Line 76 will no longer run continuously to Oregon City
Line 76 will lose service between Legacy Meridian Park Hospital and Oregon City Transit Center. Trips between those Tualatin-area destinations and Oregon City will no longer be available as one continuous Line 76 route.
The adopted plan instead extends Line 76 from Beaverton Transit Center to Sunset Transit Center, taking over for service removed from Line 20. TriMet’s planned weekday schedule effective Aug. 23 lists stops at Tigard Transit Center and Washington Square Transit Center on that continuing route.
Why TriMet is changing service
TriMet’s adopted ordinance says the agency announced a projected $300 million annual budget gap in July 2025. The agency cited higher operating costs, lower fare revenue, reduced payroll-tax revenue and unstable state and federal funding.
The approved service package is estimated to save approximately $27 million per year. The ordinance says the changes will reduce service levels by approximately 5% from fall 2025 and represent roughly half of the service-hour reduction TriMet says is needed to balance its budget.
TriMet’s public process included surveys and open houses. The ordinance says public feedback included concerns about peak-only or reduced service, work and school commutes, accessibility and access to essential destinations.
The final plan changed from the January proposal
Washington County’s January notice described Line 97 as being eliminated entirely. TriMet’s final adopted plan instead retains Line 97 in revised form, serving Tualatin, Boones Ferry Road, Kruse Way and Barbur Transit Center.
Riders should rely on the adopted service plan and the schedules effective Aug. 23 rather than the earlier proposal.
What Tigard riders should do
Before Sunday, Aug. 23, riders should check the schedule for their specific stop, direction and day of travel. TriMet’s Line 76 preview schedule is marked effective Aug. 23, 2026, and planned schedules can change without notice.
Riders who use Line 45 between Washington Square and Tigard Transit Center should identify a replacement route or transfer. Boones Ferry Road riders should check whether Line 96 or Line 97 serves their trip. Anyone traveling between Legacy Meridian Park Hospital and Oregon City should plan for the loss of the continuous Line 76 connection.
