Amarillo homelessness programs reach final federal funding stage
Amarillo’s homelessness and housing programs are entering the final local review stage for 2026 federal Continuum of Care funding, with the Continuum’s executive board scheduled to approve project scoring and ranking recommendations on Aug. 7.
The decision will determine which local homelessness, housing and supportive-service projects advance in the federal application process. The TX-611 Amarillo Continuum of Care covers planning, housing and service development and delivery within Amarillo city limits.
The city’s published schedule also calls for applicants to be notified Aug. 7 whether their applications are accepted and ranked, rejected or reduced. The final rankings are scheduled for public posting Aug. 10.
Local rankings come before the federal application
The Aug. 7 action is a local scoring and ranking decision, not a completed award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The available city record does not yet identify which applicants will be accepted, rejected or reduced, and it does not list individual award amounts.
Before the executive board’s scheduled review, an appeals panel was set to review appeals and make final scoring and ranking recommendations on Aug. 6. The board’s representative is then scheduled to review and approve the final recommendation the following day.
That sequence gives local applicants a defined point at which their applications move from scoring and appeals into the consolidated submission process. It also creates a public record of the rankings before the federal deadline.
$453,996 in annual renewal demand
The Continuum of Care lists an Annual Renewal Demand of $453,996. That figure describes the renewal demand listed by the local program; it is not a published total of final awards for the 2026 application cycle.
The funding process matters locally because the projects selected to advance could include homelessness, housing and supportive-service work within Amarillo. The city’s Community Development Department administers local community-development responsibilities, while the Continuum of Care coordinates the local planning and service-delivery process identified for TX-611.
At this stage, the approved record supports identifying the process and its deadlines, but not predicting which provider or project will receive federal funding. Any reduction or rejection remains a scheduled possible outcome for applicants until the final results are posted.
Next deadline is Aug. 26
After the local scoring and ranking process, the consolidated application is targeted for submission to HUD by Aug. 26, 2026, at 7 p.m. Central time.
The key dates are Aug. 6 for appeals review, Aug. 7 for executive-board approval and applicant notification, Aug. 10 for public posting of the final rankings, and Aug. 26 for the targeted HUD submission.
The next public information point is therefore the posting scheduled for Aug. 10. Until that posting occurs, the final project rankings and individual funding amounts remain unavailable in the city’s published record.
