Akron Reports Progress on 171 Capital Projects
Akron City Council received a July 20 progress report covering 171 city capital projects with a combined value of more than $341 million. The update gives residents a snapshot of major infrastructure spending and the timing of several visible road projects.
Akron’s annual road-resurfacing program was about 60% complete at the time of the report. Crews had resurfaced 107 streets covering approximately 24.5 miles under the program’s $6.5 million budget.
The remaining resurfacing work was expected to be completed in late September or early October, weather permitting. That schedule applies to the remaining work in the annual program, rather than indicating that all city capital projects would be finished on the same timetable.
Home Avenue work planned
A separate $3.3 million Home Avenue improvements project was scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026. The project will extend from Independence Avenue to approximately 900 feet south of Tallmadge Avenue.
The July 20 update was presented as a progress report, so the $341 million figure represents the combined cost of the 171 projects, not a claim that the full amount had already been spent. The next known milestones are the expected completion of the remaining resurfacing work and the planned start of the Home Avenue project.
