Fyffe man faces four felony charges after shots hit occupied vehicle and gas-station window

Caleb Andrew Ashley, 19, of Fyffe, was arrested June 29 after investigators said multiple rounds struck a vehicle while the victim was inside. At least one round also struck a window of a nearby gas station while people were inside, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Ashley was charged with three counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and one count of shooting into an occupied building. The charges are allegations; no court finding of guilt was reported. The sheriff’s office said Ashley and the victim were acquainted through previous relationships with the same female acquaintance, but the motive remained unknown.

The victim left the scene and went to a nearby restaurant while authorities responded. The response included the Fyffe Police Department, Rainsville Police Department and DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies. The sheriff’s office said Ashley later returned to speak with law enforcement and was taken into custody after consultation with the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.

No injuries were reported, and authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public. The sheriff’s office said the investigation remained active on June 29. Its release did not report a later court date or disposition.
