OpenAI plans Pierre deal, Code Storage integration into Codex
OpenAI plans to acquire Pierre Computer Company, maker of Code Storage and open-source developer tools, and bring Code Storage features into Codex after the transaction closes. OpenAI announced the plan on Nov. 4, 2026. The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and the companies will remain separate until then.
The products are at different stages: OpenAI says Pierreโs Trees and Diffs libraries are already used in Codex for file navigation and code-change review. It describes bringing Code Storageโs features and functionality into Codex as future work, not a completed integration.
For current Code Storage customers, the practical point is that they can continue using the service after closing while integration work proceeds, OpenAI says. The company also says Pierreโs open-source projects will remain open-source and that it will continue contributing to them. The next step is for the transaction to meet its closing conditions; OpenAI has not announced a closing date or integration schedule.
