Walnut Creek Filing Deadline Ends With Candidate List Pending
Walnut Creek’s regular nomination period ended at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, for two City Council seats and the City Treasurer position on the Nov. 3, 2026, ballot.
The filing period ran from July 13 through Aug. 7. Nomination papers were handled through the City Clerk’s Office at Walnut Creek City Hall, 1666 North Main St. The city has 49,868 registered voters, according to the April 3, 2026, figure included in its election information.
The city’s election page, updated after the deadline, had not posted the final candidate list or confirmed whether a filing extension was triggered. California’s local-election rules allow filing through 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, when an incumbent does not file by the regular deadline. The page still displayed that possible extension but did not establish whether it applies in Walnut Creek.
The seats identified for the election are currently held by Matt Francois and Cindy Silva, while Ron Cassano holds the treasurer position. The next known deadline is the possible Aug. 12 extension cutoff; the city election itself is scheduled for Nov. 3.
