Orlando Buys 3.4-Acre Industrial Campus South of Downtown
The City of Orlando has purchased more than 3.4 acres at 806 and 850 S. Hughey Avenue, adding a warehouse, office and industrial campus to the city’s holdings south of downtown.
The purchase, reported July 15, 2026, puts Orlando in control of property located in a corridor experiencing continued redevelopment. It also gives the city ownership of a site in an area where a local developer described demand for industrial properties as good and growing.
A city-owned site south of downtown
The acquisition covers two S. Hughey Avenue addresses: 806 and 850. Together, the properties contain more than 3.4 acres and include warehouse, office and industrial space.
The site’s location is central to the significance of the transaction. It sits south of downtown in a part of Orlando where redevelopment is continuing, while industrial demand is also growing. The purchase therefore adds city-owned land to a changing commercial corridor rather than an isolated parcel with no reported development context.
For Orlando, the immediate change is control of the property. Ownership gives the city a direct role in decisions involving the campus as the surrounding area changes. The confirmed acquisition does not, by itself, establish what will happen to the buildings or land next.
Future use remains open
The city has not announced the purchase price or the intended end use for the properties. No redevelopment project, funding plan or future city facility has been identified in the public reporting about the acquisition.
That means residents and nearby property owners have a clear answer about who now owns the site, but not yet about whether the campus will be maintained, reused, redeveloped or considered for another city purpose. Any specific future use would require a separate announcement or action.
The industrial setting also distinguishes the property from the office and residential projects often associated with downtown growth. The campus includes existing warehouse and office space, and its location places those uses within a corridor already undergoing redevelopment.
A local developer told the Orlando Business Journal that demand for industrial sites in the area is good and growing. That comment provides market context for the acquisition, but it is not an announcement of a city-approved redevelopment plan for 806 or 850 S. Hughey Avenue.
Next listed City Council meeting
The next regular Orlando City Council meeting listed by the city is scheduled for Aug. 10, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Orlando City Hall. The meeting is available for public participation.
The meeting listing does not indicate that the S. Hughey Avenue acquisition will come before the council for a vote. It is the next scheduled opportunity on the city calendar for residents to follow city business after the purchase was reported.
For now, the material development is the acquisition itself: Orlando has purchased more than 3.4 acres of industrial and office property south of downtown. The transaction places the city in a redevelopment corridor with reported demand for industrial space, while the financial terms and the property’s eventual use remain to be announced.
