Port of Grapeview receives up to $25,000 for dock, parking and facility upgrades

Mason County has approved up to $25,000 for the Port of Grapeview’s Facility Maintenance and Improvements Project, funding repairs and public-infrastructure work at the Grapeview waterfront.

The Mason County Board of Commissioners approved the memorandum of understanding on Sept. 16, 2025. The county funding will come from the Rural County .09 Sales & Use Tax Fund. The Port of Grapeview will contribute $10,000 from its operating budget, bringing the total project budget to $35,000.

What the project covers

The largest allocation is $15,000 for parking-area upgrades. The budget also sets aside $7,500 for dock and ramp upgrades and $7,500 for landscaping and tree-safety work.

Other line items include $2,500 for restroom upgrades, $1,500 for buoy and asset inspections, $650 for well and pump-house upgrades and $350 for contingency. Together, those allocations account for the full $35,000 project budget.

The agreement describes the work as supporting public safety, protecting Port infrastructure, promoting economic development and preserving public access to marine resources. The project is also included on the 2025-2026 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy project list.

Why the work matters at the waterfront

The Port’s dock, parking areas, restrooms and shoreline facilities serve residents and visitors. The planned work combines visible improvements, such as parking, landscaping and restrooms, with maintenance of less visible assets, including the well, pump house, buoys and other Port equipment.

The Port identifies its facility at 5971 E. Mason Lake Drive W. in Grapeview. Its stated mission includes economic development, aquaculture, recreational boating, community engagement and environmental stewardship.

The Port’s website separately announces a permanent reassignment of temporary parking spaces near the restrooms for emergency medical services, law enforcement and staff use. That parking change is separate from the project budget approved through the county agreement.

Funding approval and next steps

The county action establishes the funding arrangement and authorizes the maintenance and improvement project. It does not establish a date by which the work must be completed, and the approval should not be read as confirmation that every listed upgrade is already finished.

The agreement therefore marks a funding step for repairs and improvements rather than a new Port expansion. The Port’s $10,000 contribution and the county’s authorization together provide the $35,000 budget for the listed work at the Grapeview waterfront.
