Mount Sinai Schools Begin Summer Bond Construction With Roof, Bathroom and Auditorium Work

The Mount Sinai Union Free School District has begun implementing its 2025 voter-approved facilities bond after receiving the required New York State Education Department approvals for the next phase of work.

The construction period identified for the listed projects is summer 2026. Planned work spans elementary, middle and high-school facilities, as well as outdoor areas across the Mount Sinai school campus.

Projects planned across the district

At the elementary and middle schools, the summer scope includes bathroom renovations and roof work. The district also lists playground improvements and additional playground planning as part of the bond program.

At the high school, projects include upgrades to the auditorium and improvements in the athletic-field area. The work therefore covers both interior spaces used by students and staff and outdoor facilities used for school activities.

The district describes the projects as voter-approved bond work already underway. The bond referendum was held in 2025 and passed, allowing the district to proceed with the broader facilities program after the required state review and approvals.

State approval and next phase

The New York State Education Department lists an approved Smart Schools plan for the Mount Sinai Union Free School District dated Feb. 5, 2026. That state record documents NYSED’s continuing role in the district’s school capital and technology approvals, while the district’s bond update says the necessary approvals for the next phase have been received.

The bond program prioritizes infrastructure, student safety and more modern learning environments. For students and staff, that means construction activity will accompany the work as facilities are renovated and improved during and after the summer break.

Because the projects cover several buildings and types of facilities, implementation will affect more than one part of district operations. Bathroom and roof work is planned at the elementary and middle schools, while auditorium, playground and athletic-area projects extend the program to shared student spaces and campus amenities.

The district’s current project update does not identify a total bond amount or provide a final completion date for each project. Summer 2026 is the stated construction period for the listed work, with the broader implementation continuing after the required approvals.
