Timberline postpones homecoming events; Oct. 10 dance stays scheduled
Timberline High School postponed its homecoming activities scheduled for the week of Oct. 6, 2026, except for the Homecoming Dance, which remained scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10. The school announced the change Oct. 6, citing growing student-safety concerns, heightened emotions and reported threats of violence.
The school said it was working to reschedule the other activities but had not announced new dates. The homecoming football game had been scheduled for Thursday; the dance remained on the calendar.
Police investigation and district response
Boise police began investigating after school officials reported the matter on Oct. 2, according to a police statement published by Idaho News 6. Idaho Education News reported that the investigation was ongoing as of Oct. 6 and that additional police presence had been reported at Timberline.
Idaho News 6 reported police said the reported threatening language and online harassment appeared directed at one victim, and the incident did not involve an active threat to the school or the general student population.
News outlets said they could not independently verify circulated screenshots or establish who authored the messages. As of Oct. 6, reporting had established no finding of responsibility or criminal charge.
The Boise School District said police asked it to pause internal action to avoid jeopardizing a potential criminal investigation. The district had not yet begun its formal investigation and said it would start once law enforcement permitted it to proceed.
Petition seeks discipline and education
A petition related to the reports had collected more than 11,000 signatures by Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 6, Idaho Education News reported. It called for administrative action, including removing students from the football team and expelling them, and advocated education about respectful behavior and consent. Those requests are petition demands, not findings about any student.
The school’s postponement changed the week’s homecoming schedule while leaving the dance scheduled. New dates for the other events had not been announced.
