Mobile council holds first evening meeting under annual approach
The Mobile City Council held a 6 p.m. meeting Oct. 6 at the Government Plaza auditorium, rather than at the city’s usual Tuesday regular-meeting time of 10:30 a.m. Local coverage described it as the council’s first evening meeting under an approach of holding one after-hours session each year.
Council members said the later start was intended to make it easier for people with daytime jobs to attend and participate. A 4:30 p.m. work session preceded the council meeting.
Earlier coverage reported that Councilman Cory Penn proposed evening meetings in January, April, July and October. The council tabled that proposal without a vote.
The City’s meeting page lists regular Tuesday meetings at 10:30 a.m. in the Government Plaza auditorium. Local reports characterized the October meeting as part of an annual after-hours approach, but do not establish a formally adopted recurring schedule or identify another evening meeting date.
