Peoria sets Oct. 21 review of El Mirage Road design
Peoria and the Arizona Department of Transportation will present final-design plans for the proposed El Mirage Road connection between Loop 303 and Jomax Road at an in-person meeting on Oct. 21. The public can submit comments from Oct. 19 through 5 p.m. Nov. 6.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Lake Pleasant Elementary School, 31501 N. Westland Road, in Peoria. The project remains in final design; the meeting and comment period are opportunities to review the plans and provide input, not an announcement that construction has started.
Meeting agenda and ways to comment
The meeting will begin with an open house from 5:30 to 6 p.m., followed by a presentation from 6 to 6:25 p.m. A question-and-answer session is scheduled for 6:25 to 6:45 p.m., with another open house from 6:45 to 7 p.m. Project materials are scheduled to be available online starting Oct. 19.
Comments may be submitted online, by email, telephone or mail during the comment period. The project website lists Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. as the deadline.
Four-lane design and projected timeline
The proposed corridor would have two travel lanes in each direction, a median, six-foot bicycle lanes and eight-foot sidewalks on both sides. West Valley Post describes the project as approximately 2.2 miles, combining new roadway with reconstruction of existing segments.
The plans also include restriping 2,000 feet of El Mirage Road between Loop 303 and Corte Bella Drive. A reinforced-concrete box culvert is planned at the McMicken Dam Outlet Channel, and a single-span concrete bridge is planned over the Beardsley Canal.
Signals are planned at the Loop 303 interchange and Happy Valley Road. Roundabouts are planned at Mariposa Grande, Coldwater Ranch Drive and Jomax Road.
The project website says final design began in spring 2026 and is anticipated to finish in fall 2027. Construction could begin as early as 2028; that is a projected schedule, not a confirmed start date. The project is not described as under construction.
ADOT said in January 2026 that it had released the Final Environmental Assessment with a Finding of No Significant Impact and the Final Design Concept Report. The current plan is described as an interim four-lane design. Its 38-foot median would leave room for possible future widening to six lanes; that widening is not part of the current design.
