Fire damaged 12 vehicles in Salt Lake City International Airportโs Blue Lot on Friday, Oct. 23, and no injuries were reported, according to Salt Lake City Fire Department statements reported by KSL and Gephardt Daily. FOX 13 reported that some vehicles were destroyed.
The fire department said investigators identified the vehicle where the fire began and were examining a possible electrical malfunction. Its statement did not identify a confirmed cause. FOX 13 separately reported that a Kia Telluride was believed to have started the fire and that police might check whether the SUV was covered by an active recall. That preliminary account does not establish the vehicleโs recall status or link a recall to the fire.
KSL reported that the vehicle of origin had been parked at about 10 p.m. Thursday and that an airport call came in around 5:45 a.m. Fridayโabout 7 hours and 45 minutes later. Those times do not establish when the fire started. KSL also reported that police contacted affected owners; the damaged vehicles were taken to an impound lot to clear parking spaces.
