ECW campaign reaches 90% of $600M goal, with $58.4M left
Education Cannot Wait (ECW) says its campaign for crisis education has reached US$541.6 million toward a US$600 million target for 2027โ2030. The total was reported at a November 5, 2026, replenishment conference in Geneva, hosted by Switzerland.
Governments and partners announced US$405.8 million in new pledges at the conference, ECW said. The campaign total also includes US$135.8 million in previously secured multi-year commitments.
The arithmetic puts the campaign at about 90.3% of its target, leaving US$58.4 million to raise. New pledges make up roughly three-quarters of the reported total; earlier commitments account for the remaining quarter.
That distinction matters: the US$541.6 million is a fundraising total combining pledges and commitments, not a report that the full amount has been spent or services delivered. Switzerland, which hosted the conference, pledged CHF 35 million for 2027โ2030, according to ECW.
Plan sets a four-year reach target
The campaign is intended to support ECWโs strategic plan for 2027โ2030. The plan aims to reach 10 million children, including five million girls and one million children with disabilities. These are targets for the four-year period, not results already achieved.
ECW says the plan will prioritize quality learning, childrenโs safety and well-being, faster responses to emergencies, and more sustained support during prolonged crises.
It also sets a financing-channel goal: ECW aims to direct at least 50% of programme financing through national and local partners by 2030. That is a target for how programme funds are channelled, distinct from the planโs target for how many children to reach.
Youth representative Valentine Chepkoech welcomed the planโs increased focus on local partners, Geneva Solutions reported. She also described administrative barriers that youth-led organizations can face when seeking funding directly.
ECW says partner outreach will continue
ECW estimates that 258 million school-aged children and adolescents worldwide are affected by crises. The figure is an estimate of children affected by crises, not a count of children who are out of school.
ECW says it will continue engaging current and prospective partners to close the US$58.4 million gap. The organizationโs director told Geneva Solutions that another replenishment round is planned for 2027.
