Wawa to open in Tipp City July 9 as traffic concerns linger
Tipp City OH โ Wawaโs first Miami County store is scheduled to open July 9 at 65 W. Kessler-Cowlesville Road, after planning-board traffic concerns.
Wawa is scheduled to open its first Miami County location on Thursday, July 9, at 65 W. Kessler-Cowlesville Road in Tipp City. WHIO reports doors are set to open at 8 a.m., with a ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m.
For Tipp City drivers and nearby residents, the key question is whether the new store adds more congestion near County Road 25-A and Kessler-Cowlesville Road.
Why residents have been watching
Tipp City Planning Board records show Wawa Midwest LLC on the May 12 agenda for a special-use review tied to the site. In the April 14 minutes, residents raised concerns about gridlock at 25-A and Kessler-Cowlesville, especially when school is in session.
Those minutes also say city staff described a drop lane for the entrance and said new signals are being installed. A traffic study had already been done for Wawa, according to the record.
What to watch after opening day
The opening will show how well the lane and signal changes work once the store is in use. For commuters and nearby neighborhoods, the practical test is whether traffic moves more smoothly at peak times.
If congestion remains a problem, residents may push for more review. If it improves, the city will have one more example of a roadside project that worked within the existing road network.
