Raleigh Council Plans Aug. 18 Discussion on Proposed Youth Curfew
Raleigh City Council has directed the city attorney and Raleigh Police Department to draft a proposed curfew ordinance for people age 17 and younger, beginning the city’s consideration of new nighttime rules for minors.
No curfew has been enacted. The council planned to revisit the proposal at its first meeting back on Aug. 18, according to a City of Raleigh announcement published July 7.
Proposal followed incidents across Raleigh
The city’s action followed a holiday weekend marked by incidents involving large juvenile crowds in several Raleigh areas. The city identified Brier Creek, Glenwood South and the Capital Boulevard area among the locations involved.
Police reported that nine people were shot and that 29 arrests were made in connection with the incidents described in the release. The city characterized the shooting total as an estimate.
