Columbus metro gas dips from yesterday, but diesel stays near $6
Columbus OH Gas & Diesel Watch – AAA’s latest Columbus metro check shows regular gas down 2 cents and diesel down 1.3 cents, but diesel is still near $6.
AAA’s May 8 check shows a small break for Columbus drivers, but not a reset. The Columbus metro average for regular gas is $4.812 a gallon, down 2 cents from yesterday. Diesel is $5.938, down 1.3 cents and still just under $6 a gallon.
Regular gas is cheaper than last week’s $4.875, but it is still far above last month’s $3.959 and last year’s $3.137. Diesel is also below yesterday’s $5.951, but it is still higher than last week’s $5.801, last month’s $5.448, and last year’s $3.576.
That split matters for readers who drive every day. Commuters get a little relief at the pump, but contractors, delivery fleets, restaurants, service companies, and other businesses that burn diesel are still dealing with a much higher fuel bill than they were a month ago or a year ago.
How Columbus compares
The Columbus metro average is above both the Ohio and U.S. benchmarks. Ohio’s average is $4.752 for regular gas and $5.915 for diesel, while the national AAA averages are $4.546 and $5.663. The Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly update also shows the broader fuel market remains elevated, which helps explain why this local dip still leaves Columbus at a high level.
