Margate Gas & Diesel Watch: regular gas and diesel ease, but prices stay high
AAA’s Fort Lauderdale metro proxy for Margate puts regular gas at $4.471 and diesel at $5.423, both down a bit today but still high versus last year.
Margate drivers are getting a small break at the pump today, but the bigger picture is still expensive. AAA’s Fort Lauderdale metro average — the best current proxy for Margate — puts regular gas at $4.471 a gallon and diesel at $5.423 as of May 10.
Margate does not have a separate AAA city row in this data set, so the metro number is the most useful local stand-in for Broward County commuters, households, contractors, delivery fleets, restaurants, and weekend travelers.
Regular gas slipped again
Regular gas fell 2.8 cents from yesterday. Even with that dip, it is still 7.7 cents higher than a week ago, 32.4 cents higher than a month ago, and 153.1 cents higher than a year ago. For daily drivers, that means the latest move is only a modest reprieve, not a return to lower-cost fill-ups.
That matters for anyone who burns through a tank quickly — commuters, rideshare drivers, field crews, and families juggling school runs and errands. The per-gallon change may look small, but repeated fill-ups still add up.
Diesel eased too, but business pressure remains
Diesel slipped 1.7 cents from yesterday and is 6.4 cents lower than a week ago. Longer-term comparisons are still rough: diesel is 32.2 cents above last month and 217.2 cents above last year. That keeps pressure on contractors, delivery drivers, landscapers, service fleets, and restaurants that depend on steady freight runs.
When diesel stays high, the cost can show up later in delivery surcharges, tighter margins, or higher prices for goods and services. Local pump prices can also vary widely, so drivers should still compare stations near commuter routes and commercial corridors.
How Margate compares
The Fort Lauderdale proxy is above Florida’s average on both fuels. AAA’s statewide average was $4.427 for regular and $5.311 for diesel, while the U.S. average was $4.522 for regular and $5.647 for diesel.
That means Margate-area drivers should not assume the local market is getting cheap just because today’s move was lower. If you are seeing especially high or low pump prices around Margate, share the highest and lowest prices you are spotting locally.
