Buffalo gas climbs to $4.57, diesel holds near $5.92 as summer driving nears

Buffalo NY Gas & Diesel Watch – AAA’s May 10 metro check shows regular gas at $4.566, diesel at $5.917, and both are still above the U.S. average.

AAA’s latest Buffalo-Niagara Falls metro price check, dated May 10, shows regular gasoline at $4.566 a gallon and diesel at $5.917. Regular gas is still edging higher, while diesel is basically flat day over day and remains close to the $6 mark.

Regular gas keeps creeping up

For regular gasoline, the metro average is up 0.9 cents from yesterday, 17.1 cents from a week ago, 41.1 cents from a month ago, and 150.9 cents from a year ago. That is the number most commuters will feel first, especially households that fill up several times a week and drivers with longer work commutes.

Diesel is steady, but still expensive

Diesel is down just 0.2 cents from yesterday, which makes it essentially unchanged for practical purposes. Even so, the price remains 1.7 cents higher than a week ago and 202.1 cents above a year ago. That matters for contractors, delivery drivers, restaurants, service businesses, and anyone running diesel equipment or fleets, because fuel costs tend to show up quickly in operating budgets.

How Buffalo compares with the state and country

Buffalo-Niagara Falls is still above the U.S. average on both grades. AAA lists the national average at $4.522 for regular gasoline and $5.647 for diesel. The metro is slightly below New York’s statewide average, which stands at $4.585 for regular and $5.942 for diesel. The bottom line is that Buffalo is not the highest-cost spot in New York, but it is still well above the national norm.

The Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly update also shows fuel costs staying elevated nationwide, which helps explain why local prices have not eased much. For drivers, the practical advice is simple: the next few fill-ups may matter, especially if you commute daily or buy fuel for work vehicles.
