AAA schedules Bayamón pumping-station work affecting 60,000 water customers
Puerto Rico’s Aqueduct and Sewer Authority has scheduled work to complete reconstruction of the Finca Rosso 1 pumping station in Bayamón beginning July 29, with an estimated three-day water-service interruption affecting approximately 60,000 customers in Bayamón and Guaynabo.
The planned work includes incorporating two new pumps into the system. The pumps are intended to replace pumps 2 and 3, which were out of operation, according to reporting on the authority’s announcement.
The 60,000-customer estimate applies to Bayamón and Guaynabo together. The available report does not state how many customers in each municipality could be affected, and it does not mean all Bayamón residents will lose service.
Work is part of a reconstruction project
The authority described the July work as part of a broader reconstruction project at Finca Rosso 1. The station is a significant part of the area’s water infrastructure: a January announcement from Puerto Rico’s Fiscal Agency and Financial Advisory Authority identified the facility as serving approximately 60,000 customers in Bayamón, Guaynabo and San Juan.
That facility-wide service description is different from the reported estimate for the planned interruption. The interruption estimate names Bayamón and Guaynabo, while the earlier infrastructure announcement described the station’s customer base across three municipalities, including San Juan.
The Fiscal Agency and Financial Advisory Authority reported a $10.7 million allocation for improvements at Finca Rosso 1. It said $7.3 million came from executive discretionary funds and that another transfer was pending fiscal-oversight approval.
What customers know so far
The scheduled start date is July 29, and the reported expected duration is three days. The available July 26 report did not confirm a final restoration time after the work, so customers should not treat the three-day estimate as a confirmed time when service will be restored.
The planned installation is intended to return replacement capacity for the two pumps that were offline. However, the available information does not establish that the work will fully resolve broader water-supply problems in the metropolitan area, nor does it provide a completion notice for the reconstruction project.
