FAO Food Price Index Fell 0.3% in June 2026 as Vegetable-Oil Prices Rose

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reported July 3 that its Food Price Index averaged 130.3 points in June 2026. The index fell 0.4 points, or 0.3%, from May, marking a slight decline in the global measure of internationally traded food commodities.

The result does not mean food prices moved in the same direction across all commodities. FAO’s index is a global commodity measure, not a direct reading of retail prices or household inflation in any particular country. The available release therefore does not establish how the June change affected grocery costs or household budgets.

Vegetable-oil prices moved higher

Vegetable oils were a notable exception to the overall decline. FAO said its vegetable-oil index averaged 192.0 points in June, up 7.0 points, or 3.8%, from May. The index was 23.3% higher than its level in June 2025.

The contrast between the broadly stable overall index and the sharper increase for vegetable oils is the central development in the release. FAO’s calendar identifies Aug. 7 as the next scheduled update in the continuing monthly food-price and commodity-price series. That future release’s results are not yet available.
