FAO Releases July 2026 Food-Price Index Update as Global Supply Risks Persist

The Food and Agriculture Organization released its July 2026 Food Price Index update on Aug. 7, providing the latest official global benchmark for prices of internationally traded food commodities.

The index tracks monthly changes in the international prices of a basket of globally traded foods. Its June reading averaged 130.3 points, down 0.4 points, or 0.3%, from the revised May level.

FAO’s public update listing does not state the July index level or its monthly change. That means the release establishes that the latest monthly benchmark has been issued, but does not by itself show whether the index rose or fell in July. The measure is a gauge of international commodity prices, not a direct measure of grocery-price inflation in every country.

The index is being watched as governments, businesses and international agencies assess pressure on global food markets amid risks involving climate, energy, trade and conflict. Those factors can affect internationally traded commodities and, over time, influence food costs, although their specific effect on the July reading is not established here. FAO’s release calendar lists Sept. 4, 2026, as the next scheduled food-price index update.
