Saudi-led coalition claims 136 targets destroyed in Yemen
The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government said Friday, Oct. 9, that it had destroyed 136 military targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, describing the strikes as a large-scale operation. The coalition said it was providing round-the-clock air support to Yemeni government forces and targeting Houthi personnel and military capabilities, including the group’s ballistic-missile network.
The coalition’s target count and claim of destruction have not been independently verified. It described operations as ongoing but gave no timetable.
The announcement came amid intensified fighting and Houthi-claimed attacks on Saudi Arabia. Separately, Saudi aviation authorities said attacks targeting Riyadh’s international airport and an aircraft there on Thursday killed three Saudi citizens, the Associated Press reported. The Houthis had claimed an airport attack, AP reported. Those reported deaths were in Saudi Arabia, not from the coalition’s claimed Yemen strikes; reporting did not establish that the Yemen operation was a response to the attacks.
