UNICEF reports seven child deaths in Gaza over two weeks
UNICEF said seven children were reported killed and at least 33 seriously injured in Gaza during the two weeks before an Oct. 16 briefing, describing continued casualties more than a year after a ceasefire was announced.
Global Deputy Spokesperson Ricardo Pires said the seven were five boys and two girls. UNICEF attributed the deaths and injuries to air strikes, drone strikes and gunfire. Pires separately reported that two boys had died from injuries sustained earlier; they were not part of the seven deaths reported for the two-week period.
Since the ceasefire was announced a little over a year earlier, more than 340 children had been reported killed and hundreds injured, UNICEF said. The agency said about 800,000 children remained displaced, most living in tents or dangerous damaged buildings. These cumulative figures cover the longer period, not just the two weeks preceding the briefing.
The briefing did not provide an incident-by-incident accounting. The figures are UNICEFโs reported totals.
