EAC launches free federal training certification for election officials
United States Fast Follow on Elections and Democracy – The EAC launched a free online certificate and training library for state and local election officials.
The U.S. Election Assistance Commission launched a free federal training certificate for state and local election officials on June 15, 2026, as part of its Learning Lab program. The agency says anyone working in an election office can earn an EAC Certificate of Federal Professional Training by completing the on-demand coursework.
The Learning Lab offers no-cost on-demand and live training, with practical lessons on topics such as chain of custody, succession planning, accessibility, communications, voting systems and technology, voting, post-election work, and federal government and elections. The EAC says the on-demand modules are usually 10 to 20 minutes long and are available to current state and local election officials through a free account.
The agency says the certification program is meant for election workers, not voters, and supplements training already offered by state election offices and associations. The EAC also says the Learning Lab is part of its broader clearinghouse role under the Help America Vote Act.
The rollout followed an EAC training roundtable on May 21, 2026, where commissioners and staff spoke with 10 election officials about their experiences with existing training and opportunities for expansion. That gives the new certificate a direct line to practitioner feedback.
For readers, the takeaway is simple: the federal election agency now offers a no-cost credential and training library for the people who run elections.
