Pedigree canned dog food recalled after possible metal and plastic contamination
United States Food Drug and Consumer Safety – Mars Petcare recalled two PEDIGREE wet dog food lots after the FDA said the cans may contain hard metal and plastic foreign material.
Mars Petcare has recalled two lots of PEDIGREE Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor 13.2-ounce wet dog food after the FDA said the cans may contain foreign material. The company says the affected product was sent to a third-party vendor for destruction and later appears to have been fraudulently diverted into the U.S. marketplace.
What changed
The recall applies only to lot codes 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC. Mars says the safety risk is that pieces of hard and sharp metal with plastic may be present, which could cause choking, cuts, or a blockage in a dog’s digestive tract.
The company says no related pet illness or injury had been reported when the recall was announced, and no other PEDIGREE or Mars Petcare US products are affected.
What pet owners should do
If you have this product at home, do not feed it to a pet. Compare the lot code on the can, and contact PEDIGREE Consumer Care for a replacement if it matches the recall. If a dog already ate the food and seems sick or injured, the company says to contact a veterinarian.
Why this matters now
This is a narrow recall, but it affects a product many people may have bought for regular use. Because the concern is possible sharp foreign material inside sealed cans, the safest move is to check the label before opening or serving it.
