Sugarcreek Township’s no-solicitation rules: Do Not Solicit list & window clings
Sugarcreek Township residents can use the Township’s Do Not Solicit registry and free “No Solicitation” window clings to reduce unwanted doorstep visits.
With warm-weather solicitation season ramping up, Sugarcreek Township residents who want fewer uninvited sales visits have two local tools: (1) the Township’s Do Not Solicit registry tied to the solicitor/transient-vendor registration process, and (2) “No Solicitation” window clings that signal households shouldn’t be approached.
What Sugarcreek Township regulates (and where residents fit in)
Sugarcreek Township regulates solicitors and transient vendors who want to approach residents in the township. The Township says transient vendors must register, and the solicitor badge provided for that registration must be visible when a representative approaches your home. The Township also ties residents’ “no solicitation” preferences to its Do Not Solicit system and to households displaying no-solicitation decals/signs.
Option 1: Add your home to the Township’s Do Not Solicit list
The Township maintains a Do Not Solicit List (registry) for households that do not want uninvited vendors to visit. The policy says this list is provided to vendors upon registration, and that it includes the most up-to-date households enrolled at the time the vendor registered.
What to do: Use the Township’s “Add My Address to the Do Not Solicit Registry” link on its Solicitation / Transient Vendors page.
- The Township says vendors must check the Township website for the up-to-date list.
- The Township also states that no solicitation applies even if there is no sticker displayed at the residence.
Option 2: Use the Township’s “No Solicitation” window clings
Sugarcreek Township also promotes “No Solicitation” window clings as a visible way to communicate your preference before a solicitor knocks.
Where to get them: The Township’s news post says the clings are free of charge and available at the Township Administration Office (2090 Ferry Road, Sugarcreek Township, Ohio 45305).
Why it matters: The Township policy says no solicitation shall occur at any residence where a No Soliciting decal or sign is displayed.
When solicitation is allowed (seasonal hours the Township sets)
The Township’s policy sets seasonal time windows for solicitors/transient vendors:
- October 1 through April 30: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- May 1 through September 30: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
With the May 1 seasonal shift, the permitted window extends later in the day during warmer months—one more reason residents may want to use both tools (registry + window cling).
If a vendor ignores the rules or your signage
The Township states that violating its solicitation restrictions is treated as a misdemeanor under Ohio law (ORC § 505.99). It also says that if a solicitor/vendor is issued a citation and the citation is paid or results in a guilty finding, the vendor’s license will be revoked and the vendor would not be allowed to get another permit for one year.
In addition, the Township policy says soliciting at a residence with a no-solicitation decal/sign (or at a residence listed on the Do Not Solicit registry) can be prosecuted for criminal trespassing.
Resident checklist (quick and practical)
- Add your address using the Township’s “Add My Address to the Do Not Solicit Registry” link.
- Display a “No Solicitation” window cling so solicitors see your preference at the door.
- Keep the seasonal hours in mind (May 1–Sep 30 runs later than the Oct 1–Apr 30 window).
This is a local Sugarcreek Township solicitation system for transient vendors—not the federal “Do Not Call” registry.
