Albany-area gas prices hold nearly flat as diesel rises faster
Regular gasoline prices were nearly unchanged from the previous day across the Albany-Schenectady-Troy metro, while diesel rose more sharply in the latest AAA price check dated August 3, 2026. The difference matters at the pump and for businesses that depend on trucks, vans, equipment and deliveries.
Regular gas is nearly flat day to day
AAA listed the Albany-Schenectady-Troy metro average for regular gasoline at $4.190 per gallon. That was up 0.1 cent from the previous day’s $4.189 average, a change too small to describe as a sharp jump.
The weekly trend was firmer. Regular gas was 1.7 cents higher than the $4.173 average recorded a week earlier. Compared with one month ago, the metro average was 22.2 cents higher. Compared with one year ago, it was $1.091 higher.
For Albany-area commuters and households, the latest daily change may be difficult to notice at one fill-up, while the longer-term increase is more significant. Weekend travelers and people driving to local events may also see a larger total cost for a full tank, depending on vehicle size and the station they choose.
Diesel is moving faster
AAA listed diesel at $5.476 per gallon across the same metro area. Diesel rose 4.4 cents from the previous day’s $5.432 average and 13.2 cents from the previous week’s $5.344 average.
The longer comparisons were also higher: diesel was up 31.8 cents from one month ago and $1.712 from one year ago. The sharper short-term movement gives diesel users more reason to watch prices closely, especially operators who buy fuel in larger volumes.
Higher diesel costs can work their way into transportation expenses for delivery companies, contractors, farms, restaurants, freight operators and service businesses. Those are practical implications of the price movement, not documented price changes announced by any particular Albany business.
The metro average is not every Albany station
The AAA figure covers the Albany-Schenectady-Troy metro, not Albany city station prices alone. Individual pumps can be higher or lower depending on location, competition, fuel brand, taxes, discounts and when the station last changed its price.
For statewide context, AAA listed New York’s regular-gas average at $4.222 and its diesel average at $5.632 on August 3. The latest U.S. Energy Information Administration data, released July 28 for the week of July 27, put New York regular gasoline at $4.138 per gallon. Those statewide figures should not be read as Albany-area station averages. The Associated Press has also reported broader national pressure from elevated fuel prices and the potential effect of higher diesel costs on freight and delivery expenses.
