Bakersfield Fuel Prices Rise, With Diesel Up 9 Cents in a Week
Bakersfield-area regular gas averages $5.666 and diesel $6.770 in AAA’s Aug. 1 check; both moved higher, with diesel up 9.2 cents over the past week.
Bakersfield-area regular gasoline averaged $5.666 per gallon in AAA’s August 1, 2026, price check, while diesel averaged $6.770 per gallon. Both prices moved higher from the previous day, but diesel’s increase was substantially larger over the past week.
Regular gas edges higher
AAA’s Bakersfield metro average for regular gasoline rose 0.4 cents from the prior day and 2.2 cents from the previous week. Compared with the same point last year, regular gas was up $1.212 per gallon.
The average describes the Bakersfield-area market, not the price at every station. Individual pumps can vary by neighborhood, brand, payment method and fuel grade, so drivers may see prices above or below the metro figure.
Diesel is moving faster
Diesel reached $6.770 per gallon, up 2.5 cents from the previous day and 9.2 cents from a week earlier. The year-over-year increase was $1.629 per gallon.
That puts diesel about $1.10 per gallon above regular gasoline in the latest AAA comparison. Diesel’s weekly increase was more than four times the increase recorded for regular gas, making it the faster-moving part of the local fuel market.
Who may feel the difference
Higher regular-gas prices can add to weekly commuting costs for households and workers who drive long distances. The larger diesel increase may be more significant for farmers, contractors, delivery operators, service businesses and other users of diesel-powered trucks or equipment.
Fuel costs can also work their way into delivery charges, service-call pricing and the operating costs of restaurants and other businesses that depend on transportation. Those effects will vary by company and are not proof that every local business has changed its prices or operations.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration publishes broader California weekly gasoline and diesel data, but those statewide figures should not be substituted for the Bakersfield metro average.
