Public safety: multiple investigations
Baltimore police are working several shooting investigations reported late Wednesday, Feb. 25, including two cases that were later treated as homicides. In the Southern District, officers responded to the 3500 block of 5th Street and found a man with a gunshot wound; police later reported the victim died at the hospital.
In the Northwest District, officers responded to the 4900 block of Reisterstown Road and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Police reported both victims later died from their injuries.
Separately, officers said a 28-year-old man was shot around 3 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the 2900 block of Boarman Avenue. Police said the injury was not believed to be life-threatening.
State review of a fatal police-involved shooting
The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division said it is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting in Baltimore that occurred Tuesday, Feb. 24. The state release describes officers encountering a man near the 3600 block of Belair Road, then pursuing him on foot. Investigators said the man produced a handgun during the encounter and two officers fired, striking him. The IID said the investigation is ongoing.
Three-alarm commercial fire in East Baltimore
Fire crews responded to a commercial building fire Thursday morning, Feb. 26, in the 2000 block of N. Rose Street. Officials said the incident escalated to a three-alarm response as crews worked to bring it under control. A civilian and a firefighter were reported injured, and the cause remains under investigation.
Looking ahead: wintry mix possible early next week
Forecasters are flagging the potential for snow and ice impacts Monday into Tuesday across the Baltimore-Washington region. The exact track and timing remain uncertain, but the risk window is worth watching if you commute or have travel plans.
