Baltimore’s Historic Drop in Homicides and Upcoming Winter Storm
Baltimore, MD — February 1, 2026 — The city reports a significant decline in homicides and braces for an incoming winter storm with potential snow accumulation.
Historic Drop in Homicides
Baltimore has achieved a remarkable milestone with a 31.44% decrease in homicides in 2025, recording the fewest in nearly 50 years. This progress is attributed to collaborative efforts among law enforcement, community organizations, and residents. Mayor Brandon M. Scott emphasized the importance of sustaining and expanding these gains to continue reducing violence in the city.
Winter Storm Advisory
Residents are advised to prepare for an incoming winter storm expected to bring snow accumulation, icy conditions, and freezing temperatures. The Baltimore City Emergency Operations Center remains activated, and a State of Emergency declaration is in effect. The “Baltimore Snow Corps” program has been launched to assist residents with snow and ice removal from sidewalks during this period.
