City election field set after qualifying closes
Bartow’s spring city election is now locked in after the qualifying period ended at 5 p.m. Friday, February 6. The April 7 regular election will decide representation for Seat 4, an at-large seat, and Seat 5, which covers the East District. Residents can review qualifying documents through the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall and start learning more about who will be on their ballot.
Cool nights linger as county burn ban continues
After a stretch of dangerous cold, forecasters say daytime temperatures are gradually warming but overnight lows will continue to hover near freezing for the next few nights. County officials are keeping a burn ban in place for Bartow and much of Polk County until further notice, so residents should avoid outdoor burning and use extra caution with space heaters and generators.
Library highlights Black History Month
The Bartow Public Library is in the spotlight today with its Black History Month Bingo for Books program, scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m. The family-friendly event offers a simple way for kids and adults to celebrate Black history, discover new titles on the shelves, and connect with neighbors on a chilly Saturday afternoon.
City calendar: meetings and fun ahead
Looking to get more involved at City Hall, there are several opportunities coming up this month. A joint Recreation Advisory Board and City Commission meeting is set for Wednesday, February 11, followed by a Citizens Advisory Board session on Thursday, February 12 and a joint Community Redevelopment Agency and City Commission meeting on Friday, February 13. The next regular City Commission meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 16.
On the lighter side, the city calendar also features ongoing chair yoga at the library and senior programming at the civic center. Farther out, fans of comics and science fiction are already circling Saturday, February 21, when Syfy Bartow Fest brings vendors, costumed fans and live entertainment to Mosaic Park for a free, all-day community celebration.

Submitting photos and locations directly to customer service helps crews respond faster and keeps neighborhoods looking their best.
