Battle Ground, WA — February 7, 2026 — Community notes on schools, sports and events as Battle Ground heads into a busy levy and tournament week.
Battle Ground Daily Briefing
It is Saturday, February 7, 2026, and here is a quick look at what is happening around Battle Ground today.
Early learning in the spotlight
Transitional kindergarten programs across the district were celebrated this week, highlighting small class sizes, extra support for families and a focus on getting the youngest learners ready for kindergarten. Events recognized teachers, support staff and community partners who help four year olds build early literacy, social skills and confidence before they enter elementary school.
High school athletes share stories with little Tigers
Varsity basketball players from Prairie High spent part of their day reading with transitional kindergarten students at Pleasant Valley Primary. The visit paired older students with small groups of children to share picture books, answer questions and model positive leadership. Staff say these visits help younger students see local athletes as approachable role models while giving teens a chance to give back in a low pressure setting.
State cheer championships fill Battle Ground High
The state cheer championships are in town this weekend, with teams from across Washington competing at Battle Ground High School on Friday and Saturday. The two day event is expected to keep parking lots full and bring extra customers to nearby coffee shops and restaurants as families and fans spend the day between sessions. Residents heading past the high school should expect heavier traffic around the start and end of each competition block.
Schools look ahead to college and careers
Battle Ground High shared its latest weekly announcements on Friday, pointing students and families to upcoming opportunities on campus. A college and career fair is planned for March 9, giving teens a chance to meet with colleges, apprenticeship programs, military representatives and employers. Later in the month, an industry fair on February 19 at the high school will be open to the public, offering job connections, resume help and hands on demonstrations from local businesses.
Levy decision just days away
Voters are in the final weekend before the February 10 special election on a replacement educational programs and operations levy for Battle Ground schools. The measure would restore local funding for safety and security, counselors, nurses, special education, smaller class sizes and sports after earlier levies failed in 2025. District leaders have warned that failure could force about 20 million dollars in cuts and more than 200 positions over the next two years, affecting nearly every school. Ballots must be returned to a drop box or mailed in time to be postmarked by election day.
