Blairsville police garage project moves toward site survey

Blairsville Borough’s police-garage project has reached its next documented planning step: a site-survey proposal listed on the borough council’s July 21, 2026, meeting agenda.

The agenda identifies an $859,090 Local Share Account award for police and places “Site Survey Proposal” under the engineer’s report. That indicates preliminary planning activity, but the agenda does not establish that borough council approved a final site, authorized construction, or awarded a contract.

What the project involves

WCCS reported in April that the planned Blairsville Police Garage is intended to include four ports, a fortified entryway and a connecting breezeway between the garage and the police station. A December 2025 funding announcement identified the project as a new police garage supported by Local Share Account funding approved through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

The borough’s July agenda also lists a separate $199,000 Local Share Account award for the Blairsville Volunteer Fire Department roof. That is a different project from the police-garage award.

Two funding records should not be combined

The $859,090 amount is tied to the Local Share Account award described in the borough agenda and WCCS reporting. A separate Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency funding document lists Blairsville Borough among recipients of a $1 million Local Law Enforcement Support Grant.

Those records represent different funding programs. The available sources do not establish that the $1 million state grant is part of the police-garage financing, that the two awards can be combined, or that either award covers the project’s full final cost.

What residents should watch next

Future public steps may include survey results, a final site decision, engineering and design work, permits, procurement and any construction authorization. Subsequent borough records should also clarify the project timeline, total cost, possible local match and whether additional financing is needed.

For now, the project concerns a planned borough police facility and the use of public grant funds. The records reviewed do not show that construction has started or that police staffing, coverage, response times or other police services will change immediately.
