Boerne drivers face one-lane Texas 46 work as county presses TxDOT on safety
Boerne, TX – Texas 46 drops to one lane June 15-18 for rumble-strip work near Boerne, as Kendall County keeps pressing TxDOT on SH 46 West safety.
The Texas Department of Transportation is scheduled to reduce Texas 46 to one lane from Monday, June 15, through Thursday, June 18, for rumble-strip work near Boerne. Drivers should expect slower travel, short backups and a one-lane, two-way traffic-control pattern during the work window.
At a June 9 Kendall County Commissioners Court session, Precinct 1 Commissioner Jennifer McCall warned motorists to expect delays and use alternate routes if possible. TxDOT area engineer Robert Madrigal said the work will begin near the Spencer Ranch subdivision intersection and run through a roughly 2-mile work zone on SH 46 West, from Interstate 10 in Boerne to Texas 16 in Bandera.
Why the timing matters
The lane reduction comes as Kendall County keeps pressing TxDOT to address safety concerns on SH 46 West. Commissioners approved a resolution April 28 asking the agency to act, reflecting ongoing concern over crashes on the corridor. That request does not mean a permanent fix has been adopted, but it does show the issue remains active with local officials.
For residents, workers and commuters, the practical takeaway is simple: this is a short but significant work zone on a road many people use every day. School runs, shift changes, deliveries and errands could all take longer while the lane is reduced.
What drivers should expect
Traffic will be controlled with a pilot car, which can create stop-and-go conditions as vehicles are moved through the work zone in sequence. Anyone who must use Texas 46 during the closure window should leave extra time, watch for work-zone signs and slow down.
The rumble-strip project is a scheduled construction step, not a completed corridor overhaul. The bigger question on SH 46 West is whether TxDOT will pursue additional safety changes beyond this work.
